LIBREVILLE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Gabon recorded its first case of Mpox, according to a statement by its health minister on Thursday.

The case involves a 30-year-old Gabonese man who recently arrived from Uganda and is currently in isolation, Gabonese Minister of Health and Social Affairs Adrien Mougougou said in the statement.

The patient, who tested positive for Mpox, exhibited symptoms including fever, fatigue and a generalized skin rash a few days after arriving in Gabon. On Wednesday, he went to the hospital, where he was isolated and treated due to the clinical suspicion, according to the statement.

"The patient is in good condition, and contact tracing is ongoing," the statement said.

The government urged the population to remain calm and vigilant.
