TUNIS, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday.

Tunisia considered the assassination as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of states and a disregard for all human and moral values and international conventions, said a statement made by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday evening.

"This heinous assassination adds to the long list of the bloody history of the heinous operations carried out by the Zionist occupation before and after the occupation of Palestine against many figures who defended the Palestinian right," reads the statement.

Haniyeh was killed in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian.

On the same day, Tunisia also condemned an Israeli attack on the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital on Tuesday, saying "the attack on Lebanon's security and sovereignty is a flagrant violation of all international pacts and laws."
