TUNIS, June 25 (Xinhua) -- About 65 percent of Tunisia's productive agricultural lands suffer from degradation, said Nabil Ben Khatra, chief of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory on Tuesday.
"The land degradation can result in a decrease in the productivity of these lands and a change in their color," Khatra said at an international seminar themed "Africa's Land: Degradation and the Compelling Need for Sustainable Management."
The two-day event brought together experts and researchers to discuss pressing issues related to land degradation in Africa and sustainable management strategies.
Tunisia launched in 2018 a national strategy to reduce desertification to improve the resilience of ecosystems and livelihoods affected by these issues. ■
