HARARE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean police said on Monday that they have retrieved the charred bodies of six people who died Sunday evening when a bus they were traveling in caught fire near the town of Rusape in Manicaland Province.
Giving an update on the accident, Paul Nyathi, national police spokesperson, told Xinhua over the phone that two people were still missing, raising fears that the death toll could be slightly higher than the seven which has initially been reported.
Eight other people were still in hospital after suffering various injuries, including burns, he added.
The bus, which has 66 passengers on board, was taking members of the Anglican Church back home from a pilgrimage in Marondera, a city about 80 km southeast of Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.
"We will need to carry out DNA tests to ascertain their identities because they were badly burnt," Nyathi said, adding that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire. ■
