MAPUTO, May 10 (Xinhua) -- All 43 political groups that expressed interest in participating in the October general elections in Mozambique have been approved by the National Elections Commission (CNE) to run in the Oct. 9 ballot, the CNE announced on Friday.
The submission of candidacies for the election of deputies of the Assembly of the Republic, members of the Provincial Assemblies and provincial governors will last 30 days, CNE Spokesman Paulo Cuinica said at a press conference to update on preparations for the October elections.
"The CNE has received and accepted the registration of 43 political formations that have expressed interest in taking part in this year's electoral race, after verifying the proposers' documents to ascertain their veracity, originality, and similarity of symbols," said Cuinica.
To date, the electoral administration has registered 16,649,373 potential voters in the current electoral cycle, exceeding the expectation, Cuinica said. ■
