Sudanese army capable of achieving victory against paramilitary forces: army deputy chief

KHARTOUM, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Member of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council and Deputy General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Shams-Edin Kabashi, on Wednesday stressed the ability of the army to achieve victory against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

"The Sudanese army is backed by its people," said Kabashi when addressing officers and soldiers at the Eastern Military Area in Gedaref State in eastern Sudan. "The Armed Forces are in their best conditions at all fronts... and is capable of achieving victory, which is close."

"The current battle is for restoring the dignity of the Sudanese people, and everybody is party to the Sudanese army's victory against this rebel militia," he said.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the SAF and the RSF since April 15, 2023. About 13,900 people have been killed since the fighting broke out, according to recent estimates released by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
