OUAGADOUGOU, March 3 (Xinhua) -- About 170 people were killed in attacks on the villages in northern Burkina Faso, a regional public prosecutor said on Saturday.

On Feb. 25, in the northern region of Burkina Faso, villages including Komsilga, Nodin, and Soro in the Yatenga province witnessed "massive murderous attacks," resulting in approximately 170 fatalities, along with injuries and significant material losses, Aly Benjamin Coulibaly, a prosecutor at the Ouahigouya high court, said in a statement.

The public prosecutor's office has dispatched investigators on Thursday to find out facts and gather evidence, he added.

Also on Feb. 25, at least 15 worshippers were killed at a Catholic church in northern Burkina Faso while dozens of Muslim worshippers were killed in an attack on a mosque in eastern Burkina Faso.
