GABORONE, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) on Monday sent its condolences to Namibians following the death of their president Hage Geingob.

"We pass our sincere condolences on the loss of this remarkable compatriot and friend of the people of Botswana to His Excellence, Nangolo Mbumba," the BDP Secretary General Kavis Kario said in a statement.

Furthermore, the BDP condoled the late president's family for their loss and assured consideration and genuine support through these trying times and into the future while celebrating Geingob as a distinguished leader who served with diligence.

Kario said Geingob will be remembered for his outstanding roles in the liberation of the people of Namibia and ultimately, as a leader of the ruling South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) Party.

Nangolo Mbumba, the former vice president of Namibia, took the oath of office on Feb. 4, officially becoming the nation's 4th president after President Hage Geingob passed away at the age of 82.

Geingob will be buried on Feb. 25, according to a media release issued Sunday by the Namibian Minister of Information Communication and Technology Emma Theofelus.
