RABAT, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan security services have dismantled a terrorist cell active in recruiting fighters for the Islamic State (IS) militant group in the Sahel region.

Four members, aged between 35 and 40, were arrested on Monday and Tuesday in the cities of Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal, and Inzegane, according to a statement of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation, Morocco's intelligence bureau.

The statement added that searches carried out at the homes of the suspects led to the seizure of several electronic devices, sums of money, large sabers, balaclavas, and a rifle.

Investigations have revealed that the cell coordinates with leaders of the IS in the Sahel-Saharan region, intending to help extremists reach this area, it added.

The statement said that arrestees were remanded in custody as part of the ongoing investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor.
