LUANDA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Endiama, the national diamond company of Angola, announced on Wednesday that it expects diamond production to reach 14.6 million carats this year, with a projected total revenue of 2.5 billion U.S. dollars, the Angola Press Agency reported.
Jose Ganga Junior, the chairman of the board of directors of Endiama, described the production plan for 2024 as "quite challenging," considering that diamond sales in 2023 amounted to 9.7 million carats.
Junior said Endiama generated more than 1.511 billion U.S. dollars in 2023 from the sale of 9.7 million carats of diamonds.
He emphasized that, despite favorable infrastructure conditions and geological reserves, achieving this year's target will require additional efforts in the areas of prospecting and exploration. ■
