MOGADISHU, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and several others injured Tuesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a coffee shop in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
The Somali police forces said in a statement that the bomb exploded as the suicide bomber tried to escape the area patronized by civil servants and disciplined forces.
The al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack.
In recent times, a military onslaught against al-Shabaab has intensified in Mogadishu and adjacent districts geared towards degrading its capacity to stage attacks that could lead to mass casualties. ■
