KAMPALA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has maintained its top position in the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone on the latest FIFA rankings.

In the rankings released on Thursday by the world football body, Uganda is placed 92nd in the world with 1,245.08 points and remains top in the CECAFA Zone.

Uganda did not improve on the rankings after its recent 2-1 defeat to Guinea and 1-0 win against Somalia in the two FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Kenya is the second ranked team in the zone and 110th position in the world with 1,181.92 points, while Tanzania who qualified for the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 is placed third in the zone and 121st in the world with 1,155.19 points.

The other teams ranked in their orders in the CECAFA Zone include Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia. Eritrea who is also part of the zone, is not ranked because it has not participated in FIFA recognized tournaments for a long time.

The 2022 World Cup winner Argentina is ranked top in the world with 1,855.2 points, while France is placed second and England third. Senegal, the AFCON reigning champion, is Africa's top ranked team in 20th position.
