Morocco, Malawi pledge to promote cooperation, strengthen ties

RABAT, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Malawian counterpart Nancy Tembo on Monday agreed to further promote cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.

The bilateral relations have entered a "very positive" phase, marked by the signing of the bilateral cooperation roadmap for 2022/2024, Bourita told a press conference following their talks in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The two sides have agreed that "2024 will be the year of expanding bilateral ties to the level of a real partnership," he added.

For her part, Tembo said that Malawi aimed to strengthen its cooperation with Morocco in various fields and raise the ties to new heights.

She also expressed her country's willingness to draw inspiration from the Moroccan experience in the development of agriculture, tourism, and mining sectors.

According to a joint communique released following the meeting, the first session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between Morocco and Malawi will be held during the first quarter of 2024. The agenda of the session will cover various sectors, including agriculture, food security, mining, water and sanitation, energy, transportation, infrastructure development, land planning, housing and urban development, higher education and scientific research.

The Malawian minister inaugurated earlier Monday her country's embassy in Rabat.
