TUNIS, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a loan of 81.9 million euros (89.08 million U.S. dollars) to Tunisia to improve wastewater treatment for agricultural reuse and enhance its climate resilience, the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported on Wednesday.

The Treated Wastewater Quality Improvement Project For Climate Resilience Building will treat waters as per the standards for agricultural reuse. The project is expected to be implemented over the period 2024-2028.

"This project is an important example of the water-energy-agriculture nexus by upgrading treated wastewater for agriculture and reducing energy costs by using solar energy," TAP quoted AfDB's Deputy Director-General for North Africa Malinne Blomberg as saying.

The project will upgrade electromechanical and electrical equipment in 19 wastewater treatment plants located in 11 provinces and increase the usage of photovoltaic solar energy to enhance treatment and energy performance.

It is expected to benefit more than 670,000 people, according to the report.
