DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and Tanzania's state-run University of Dar es Salaam on Wednesday signed an agreement aimed at bolstering food security and nutrition assessments in the country.

The 215,406-U.S.-dollar agreement was signed by the WFP representative in Tanzania Sarah Gordon-Gibson and the University of Dar es Salaam vice-chancellor William Anangisye.

Anangisye said the agreement highlighted the pivotal role that the University of Dar es Salaam will play in designing and conducting assessments for various food programs.

The program involved 11 different activities aligned with the university's mission to contribute to societal betterment through research, public service, and community engagement.

Gordon-Gibson said she was optimistic about partnering with the oldest university in Tanzania, saying the assessment that will be conducted by experts from the university will provide a clear picture of the country's food security.
