KAMPALA, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Heavy flooding has cut off a major international highway linking Uganda to neighboring South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) said on Tuesday.
The agency said in a statement that the flooding occurred along the Olwiyo-Pakwach road in the northern district of Pakwach.
"While the water levels are still too high to allow any intervention at the moment, our technical teams are monitoring the situation and have planned to intervene with an appropriate response once the water levels subside," the UNRA said.
UNRA advised motorists to use ferries on the Nile River to reach their destinations.
Several parts of the East African country have been hit by torrential rains, causing flooding and landslides. ■
