LUANDA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Angolan President Joao Lourenco sent a message to Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Saturday, conveying "condolences and solidarity" for the earthquake that struck the country on Friday night.
"On behalf of the Angolan government and myself, in the face of this tragic event, I extend our condolences and solidarity to Your Majesty and the affected families during this painful moment for the Moroccan people," according to a statement posted Saturday on the Angolan Presidency's Facebook account.
The earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday night claimed the lives of over a thousand people, causing widespread damage in Marrakesh and surrounding areas. ■
