MAPUTO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique's fisheries production reached 218,000 tons in the first half of 2023, an official announced on Monday.

Artisanal fishing accounted for around 95 percent, followed by industrial and semi-industrial fishing with 4 percent and aquaculture with 1 percent, Lidia Cardoso, minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, said at a session of the National Administration for Fisheries.

The past two years have seen average fishing yields on the decline in some fisheries, due to overfishing, marine pollution, ecological degradation and climate change, she warned.

"These are situations that draw our collective attention to the combination of efforts, with a view to dealing with these problems," she said, calling for effective management.
