WINDHOEK, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Namibia has implemented two Fujifilm systems to connect five hospitals in the country to provide remote diagnosis for patients in outlying areas.
The deployment of Fujifilm's Synapse Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is the largest of its kind in Namibia, serving Windhoek Central Hospital, Katutura State Hospital, Oshakati State Hospital, Rundu Intermediate Hospital and Onandjokwe State Hospital.
The commissioning ceremony for RIS and PACS platforms was held Wednesday in the Namibian capital of Windhoek, where the country's Minister of Health and Social Services Kalumbi Shangula delivered the keynote address.
The RIS platform helps with the scheduling and reporting of radiology appointments. Imagery acquired from there, whether CT scans or x-rays, is then digitally stored in the PACS system, where doctors can view the images and diagnose the patient.
The platforms will allow for the ability to diagnose patients from outlying areas and all the data and imagery doctors need can be viewed digitally almost immediately, he said, adding that this shortens the time frame for treatment and address the availability of healthcare for patients in rural areas.
