DAR ES SALAAM, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's anti-narcotics authorities said on Monday they have seized the largest ever illicit drugs, including 200.5 kilograms of heroin, in a massive crackdown in four regions.
A statement by the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) said the drugs were seized in Dar es Salaam, Coast, Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions during the crackdown that started on March 25 through June 18.
The statement said 109 suspects, including three foreigners, were arrested in connection with the drugs during the crackdown conducted by DCEA in collaboration with other defense and security organs.
The statement said a total of 1,093 hectares of cannabis were destroyed during the operation.
According to the statement, the seized drugs included 200.5 kilograms of heroin, 68,460 kilograms of dried cannabis, 382,550 kilograms of raw cannabis, and 1.5 kilograms of processed cannabis.
The statement mentioned other drugs seized, including 531.43 grams of methamphetamine, 3,878 pellets of heroin, 138 pellets of cocaine and 3,840 milliliters of pethidine. ■
