YAOUNDE, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Chadian army said on Wednesday, its forces have killed 23 rebels in week-long violent clashes in Tibesti region (north) of the Central African nation.
Army spokesman Azem Bermandoa Agouna told local media that eight government forces were wounded, and six rebel vehicles recovered during the clashes with National Front for Democracy and Justice in Chad (FNDJT) and Military Command Council for the Salvation of the Republic (CCMSR) that began on May 31.
He did not give further details.
On Monday, rebel group FNDJT claimed in a statement that 15 government forces were killed during the clashes.
Chad's two main rebel groups FNDJT and CCMSR have remained active mainly in the northern part of the country since former President Idriss Deby Itno was killed during fighting with the rebels in 2021. ■
