TRIPOLI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Libya said on Thursday that it welcomes Turkish investment in its private sector as well as industrial and agricultural projects.

Libyan Minister of Economy and Industry Mohamed Howej made the remarks in a meeting held on Wednesday with a Turkish economic delegation led by Murtaza Karanfil, head of the Libyan-Turkish Businessmen Association, the Libyan government said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen economic ties in the sectors of infrastructure, oil and gas, as well as building a joint hospital and an exhibition city in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, the statement said.

The Libyan Ministry of Economy and Industry said in a separate statement on Wednesday that Howej urged Türkiye to enhance ties with Libya's private sector, participate in the construction of ports and free economic zones, activate transit trade in the African market, and contribute to the industrial and agricultural projects in Libya.

Howej met with Karanfil and a number of Turkish businessmen in Türkiye's largest city Istanbul, where they discussed the operations of Turkish companies in Libya and ways to overcome difficulties in resuming Turkish companies' work in Libya in accordance with the Libyan government's action plan, the statement said.
