NAIROBI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenya said Tuesday it has so far evacuated 409 nationals from Sudan since the conflict between rival military factions broke out on April 15, said a government official Tuesday.

Alfred Mutua, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that the country has also evacuated more than 500 persons of other nationalities.

"The evacuation process is still open and we have retained a team in Sudan that is working closely with Kenyans who are willing to leave Sudan," Mutua said.

He revealed that the East African nation has also put in place resources and technical support to assist Kenyans in Sudan.

He noted that South Sudan and Ethiopia have also assisted Kenyans in crossing their borders so that they can reach Kenya.

The death toll from the clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has risen to more than 500, with thousands more injured, according to Sudan's Ministry of Health.
