ALGIERS, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for a unified international approach to help end the armed fighting in Sudan, the Algerian Presidency said on Tuesday.

Tebboune, who also presides over the Arab League at the summit level, sent messages to the secretary-general of the United Nations, current president of the African Union, and executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the presidency said in a statement.

The Algerian leader "called for urgent and collective action to prevent further escalation and put an end to the fighting between the Sudanese brothers," said the statement.

In his letters, Tebboune emphasized "the need to prioritize dialogue to resolve the differences between the Sudanese warring brothers," while proposing "a united approach" by concerned organizations to help Sudan overcome the current crisis and establish a new era of peace, harmony and stability.

He expressed Algeria's "willingness to collaborate with regional and international partners," within "a unified approach to help Sudan overcome the current crisis and establish a peaceful and stable environment for its people."

Sudan has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum and other areas outside the capital since April 15, with the two sides accusing each other of initiating the conflict.
