MOGADISHU, April 16 (Xinhua) -- At least three al-Shabab fighters were killed and a civilian wounded in a foiled terror attack in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, early Sunday, the police said.
The police said the attempted attack occurred in the Hamar Jajab district in the southeast of the capital.
The militants were traveling on a tuk-tuk, a three-wheeler taxi that forcefully passed a security checkpoint in the district to detonate the explosives but police acted on time and repulsed them.
"Three militants died while one civilian was wounded," the Somali police said in a brief statement.
The extremists were driven out of Mogadishu in 2011 but the terror group is still capable of conducting attacks, targeting government installations, military bases, hotels, and public places. ■
