LUSAKA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on Friday sacked the head of the police and his deputy.

A statement released by his office said Police Inspector-General Lemmy Kajoba and his Deputy Inspector-General in Charge of Administration Doris Nayame have been relieved of their duties.

The statement did not elaborate as regards the move.

The Zambian president has since appointed Graphel Musamba as the new police chief and Alita Mbahwe as the deputy.

Kajoba was appointed as the police chief on Aug. 29, 2021.

When swearing in the new police chief and the deputy, Hichilema said he will not allow the country to plunge back into lawlessness and bloodshed and urged the two to ensure law and order. He also urged them to restore professionalism in the police service and not to allow violence during elections.

Meanwhile, the Zambian president has terminated the tenure of four permanent secretaries.
