MAPUTO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique on Tuesday celebrated the country's Journalist Day, when President Filipe Nyusi conveyed a message to the occupational group calling for reporting facts with impartiality, responsibility, and patriotism.

Nyusi said journalism is one of the most rewarding professions in society, as "being a journalist is, above all, being a disseminator of truth about the day-to-day dynamics of the country, on its path towards stability and well-being of the people; reporting the facts, always with impartiality, responsibility, and patriotism."

Nyusi defended the country's commitment to the pluralism of ideas and freedom of expression and considered journalists to be the main participants "in the consolidation of democratic achievements that are crystallizing as a way of life for the people."

"In a context in which the country is plagued by various adversities, including endemic diseases, extreme weather events and terrorist attacks, the behavior of journalists must be guided by the defense of the homeland, through educational messages, resilience and hope," said Nyusi.

The Mozambican Journalist Day also coincides with the 45th anniversary of the founding of the National Union of Journalists of Mozambique.
