DAR ES SALAAM, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzanian government has established 1,393 special desks in primary and secondary schools in eight regions to address violence against children, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said on Wednesday.

The special desks were established in the 2022/2023 financial year in Rukwa, Arusha, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Coast, Shinyanga, Dodoma and Geita regions, where incidents of violence against children are reportedly high, Majaliwa told the parliament in the capital Dodoma.

Tabling budget proposals for his office for the 2023/2024 financial year, Majaliwa told the House that 560 children's councils were established during the period under review to create platforms for them to express challenges facing them, including violence against them.

"The councils are being used as platforms for the children to express their views and for grooming them to be self-confidence and for learning various issues concerning their rights," he said.

Majaliwa urged parents, guardians, politicians, and religious leaders to work together with the government in fighting violence against children.
