MOGADISHU, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Somali National Army (SNA) killed 14 al-Shabab militants during an onslaught in the Southwest State of Somalia, an official said Saturday.
Ali Mohamed Habbad, the SNA commander for the 60th division, told Somali National News Agency (SONNA) that the troops also captured several militants and recovered weapons during the operation.
The militants tried to ambush the army at midnight but they were defeated by the soldiers at the camp, Habbad was quoted as saying by SONNA.
The eradication of the al-Shabab militants from the country continues after the Somali president declared the second phase of offensive operations against the militants, SONNA said. ■
