LUSAKA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government said on Monday that no citizens have died as a result of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which devastated some neighboring countries.

Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Stanley Kakubo, however, said some Zambians have been affected by the cyclone in the city of Blantyre in Malawi after their property was damaged following torrential rains.

"The Zambian Missions in Malawi and Mozambique have continued to check on the known Zambians in affected areas and will continue to closely monitor the situation as it evolves," he said in a statement.

The minister, who consoled the two countries over the destruction caused by the cyclone, said Zambia has sent humanitarian aid to the two countries to help mitigate the untold effects of the disaster. The donations include maize, beans, salt, chlorine, blankets, and tents for displaced households.

The cyclone has led to the loss of lives, injuries, and severe property damage, particularly in Malawi.
