TUNIS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia held on Monday the first session of its new parliament, the first of its kind after President Kais Saied froze the previous one on July 25, 2021.
Amid strict security measures, a total of 154 lawmakers out of 161 swore in at the session.
The seven vacant seats dedicated to deputies from abroad will be subject to future by-elections in the constituencies concerned.
According to the agenda released by the official Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), the session will vote for a parliamentary speaker and two deputy speakers.
Under the chairmanship of the newly elected speaker, a committee in charge of the rules of procedures will be set up by the parliament, said the TAP.
The new parliament was elected in December and January in a vote with a turnout of 11 percent. ■
