JOHANNESBURG, March 7 (Xinhua) -- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said he has decided to appoint Paul Mashatile as Deputy President of the country.
Ramaphosa announced the appointment on Monday night in a televised address to the nation on the cabinet reshuffle.
In the address, the president also appointed 11 ministers and 12 deputy ministers.
"The changes that I am announcing now are intended to fill vacancies that have occurred in the Executive and to direct government more effectively towards the areas that require urgent and decisive action," Ramaphosa said.
Mashatile was elected as the deputy president of the country's ruling party African National Congress (ANC) in December 2022 during the ANC's 55th national conference.
Former South African Deputy President said in early February that he has resigned from the post of deputy president. On March 1, the Presidency published a statement that confirmed Mabuza's resignation. ■
