GABORONE, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The government of Botswana launched the digitalization of its health service project on Tuesday with the hashtag "Go Digital Health."

"Today we are showing the whole world that we are now fully in digitalization mode," Sethomo Lelatisitswe, Botswana's Acting Minister of Health said at the launch ceremony.

Delaying treatment may lead to disease progression and even death for the patient, so it is critical to use technology to provide patients with timely treatments, Lelatisitswe said.

With the preparation of electronic medical records, paper-based medical cards are expected to be phased out. The system will be implemented in all clinics across the country, he added.

The African Union (AU) has launched the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa 2020-2030, which seeks to assist its members, including Botswana, in digitizing their services by 2030.
