TUNIS, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security units have dismantled a terrorist cell that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) organization, the Tunisian Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
"The suspects were planning to assassinate security guards in Bizerte province in northern Tunisia, on polling day for the second round of legislative elections on Jan. 29, 2023," said a statement released by the ministry.
All members of the cell were apprehended in a coordinated operation conducted by several law enforcement agencies, it added.
Tunisia has started to witness terrorist acts since 2011, leaving dozens of security and military agents, civilians and foreign tourists killed. ■
