YAOUNDE, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon on Wednesday night issued a warning of strong winds and dust storms.

"Enormous plume" of Sahara dust with wind speed at seven meters per second is expected to hit five regions of the country, said Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe.

"If the forecasted wind conditions are maintained, this phenomenon could reach most of the northern regions and by extension certain localities in the western part of the country," Bibehe said in a statement.

"In addition to the significant reduction in visibility that can cause traffic accidents, respiratory diseases following inhalation of dust are to be watched out for by exposed populations," he said and urged residents to drive carefully and protect their eyes and nose appropriately.
