Morocco, Spain ink 20 deals to strengthen cooperation

RABAT, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Spain on Thursday signed 20 agreements to advance their joint efforts to combat illegal immigration and their cooperation in the areas of investment, education and training.

The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 12th Moroccan-Spanish High Level Meeting, which was co-chaired by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez.

The two countries also inked a financial agreement worth 870 million U.S. dollars to encourage Spanish firms' investment in Morocco.

During the High Level Meeting, the two countries stressed the importance of cooperation in sectors of infrastructure, renewable energy, water and sanitation, as well as education and health facilities, according to a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting.

Spain welcomes the efficient cooperation between the two countries in the field of circular and regular migration, the statement said.

Both sides also vowed to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, which is crucial for the security and stability of the Euro-Mediterranean region and on the global level.

A total of 11 Spanish ministers and 13 ministers from the Moroccan government attended the High Level Meeting.
