KHARTOUM, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Thursday met with visiting Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, the sovereign council said in a statement.
"The meeting discussed ways to lay down bases of fruitful relations with Israel and enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, energy, health, water and education, as well as the security and military domains," the statement said.
Meanwhile, Sudan urged Israel to bring about peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
The agenda of the meeting also included the discussion of Sudan's role in regional security.
In 2020, Sudan agreed to normalize its relations with Israel as part of a deal brokered by the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump. In the same year, Washington removed Sudan from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. ■
