TUNIS, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Officials of Tunisia and the World Bank met on Wednesday to discuss an electricity interconnection project by sea between Tunisia and Europe known as the ELMED Mediterranean power interconnector project.
The meeting involved Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Saied, visiting World Bank Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta Jesko Hentschel and the WB Resident Representative in Tunisia Alexandre Arrobio.
According to a ministry statement, the Tunisian minister highlighted the project's "economic, energy and ecological profitability." Bank representatives discussed financing and their interest in providing study-phase technical support.
The two sides examined different stages of cooperation programs, such as urban development and local governance, education projects, and irrigation infrastructure and hydraulic groups.
Saied took the opportunity to announce the start of a national strategy for improving Tunisia's business climate. ■
