NAIROBI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan police on Friday circulated names and photos of four al-Shabab terror suspects linked to the latest spate of attacks across the country's coastal region of Lamu.

The police said in a security alert that the four suspects - Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir alias Ikrima, Mohamud Abdi Aden alias Mohamed Yare, Ramadhan Kioko alias Pinji or Abu Nuseiba and Abdullahi Bulati alias Abdullahi Banati alias Mustafa - are believed to be involved in devising terror plans in Lamu, and urged the public to remain vigilant.

Police spokesperson Resila Onyango said security agencies are determined to have a safe society and appealed for information that will lead to the arrest of the individuals, some believed to have been in al-Shabab camps in Somalia and slipped into Kenya to carry out attacks.

About 10 people have been killed in the attacks in Lamu in 2023 so far amid fears that there are more planned such incidents.

In the latest attack, four road engineers died on Wednesday after their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device on the Bura-Garissa road in northeast Kenya.

Police said the wanted terror suspects are also linked to similar previous attacks in Lamu and other parts of the country.

The security alert comes against the backdrop of heightened security against the threat of terrorism in Kenya and in neighboring countries.

The alert also comes ahead of the fourth anniversary of a terror attack on the 14 Riverside Drive business complex in the capital, Nairobi, where al-Shabab killed 21 people and wounded several others.
