KAMPALA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan military on Tuesday said it is engaged in a fight with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels who crossed into the country from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The office of the military spokesman in a tweet said an estimated 20 to 30 ADF fighters on Monday night crossed River Semuliki into Kyanja in Ntoroko district, western Uganda.

"Our intelligence got wind of them and they were intercepted. A fight is on to decisively deal with the group," the military said, noting that 11 of the rebels had been killed.

The military said more details about the fight would be availed soon.

ADF, which is also a branch of the Islamic State in central Africa, is a Ugandan rebel group that is holed up in the jungles of eastern DRC. The rebel outfit is blamed for the suicide bomb attacks in the Ugandan capital Kampala in November last year.

The Ugandan military together with the Congolese troops launched joint attacks on the rebel group in November last year. The rebel group is also blamed for causing havoc in villages in eastern DRC.
