KAMPALA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese embassy, together with Chinese enterprises and the Chinese medical team in Uganda donated medical supplies to China-Uganda Friendship Hospital on Thursday in an effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ebola outbreak.
Jiang Jiqing, commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, handed over the donation to Emmanuel Tugaineyo, director of China-Uganda Friendship Hospital.
Jiang hailed the relationship between China and Uganda, noting that the two countries have been cooperating in the health sector for a long time. "China has been sending medical teams to Uganda since 1983 to share knowledge and skills with Ugandan counterparts apart from treating patients."
Rony Bahatungire, who represented Diana Atwine, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health, hailed China for the cordial relationship, especially in the health sector.
He said China has committed to supporting Uganda in expanding the hospital into a national trauma center, which will not only serve Ugandans but also people from neighboring countries.
Tugaineyo thanked China for sending medical teams to Uganda, noting that more experts will be needed as the hospital transitions into a trauma center.
China-Uganda Friendship Hospital is a 100-bed hospital that was donated by China. ■
