KIGALI, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Monday removed his Minister of Health and the State Minister in charge of Primary Healthcare.

The Minister of Health Daniel Ngamije was replaced by Sabin Nsanzimana while the State Minister in charge of Primary Healthcare Tharcisse Mpunga was replaced by Yvan Butera, a statement issued by the country's Prime Minister, Edouard Ngirente said.

No reason was given for the changes.

But Ngamije had been appointed in February 2020 as the fight against COVID-19 pandemic began to intensify.

Nsanzimana holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the National University of Rwanda and a PhD in Epidemiology from Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, University of Basel, Switzerland.

Mpunga was named the new Director General of the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali popularly known as CHUK, according to the statement.
