TUNIS, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The electoral campaign to choose Tunisia's legislators next month officially kicked off on Tunisian territory on Friday, two days after the campaign began abroad.

According to the Independent High Authority for Elections, the electoral campaign will continue until midnight on Dec. 15.

Citing the new electoral law, the electoral authority said 1,055 candidates are running for the 161 seats in the new parliament inside and outside Tunisia.

Domestic voting will occur on Dec. 17, while overseas voting is set for Dec. 15, 16, and 17.

The Tunisian legislative elections will be organized in two-round votes, and people will vote for individuals rather than lists as in previous elections.

Tunisian President Kais Saied announced on March 30 the dissolution of the Assembly of People's Representatives or the Tunisian parliament.

In December last year, Saied announced a constitutional referendum would be held in July this year, followed by parliamentary elections at the end of 2022.
