CAIRO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed in a minibus-truck collision in southwestern Egypt late Tuesday, according to the health authorities in Upper Egypt.
"A minibus commuting 14 people, including the driver and a pickup truck collided near Abu Minqar, an oasis in the southwestern province of the New Valley," the health authorities said in a statement.
The bodies were transferred to the mortuary of a nearby hospital, it said, noting that five bodies were not identified.
A preliminary investigation blamed the minibus driver for high speed, without giving further details.
Over the past few years, Egypt has been upgrading its road network by building new roads and bridges and repairing old ones to reduce traffic accidents. ■
