TUNIS, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Developing the defense industry has become a national strategy for Tunisia, given its importance to the fields of security, technology and economy, Tunisian Defence Minister Imed Memmich said Wednesday.
"The military industry will represent a growth engine for several fields and sectors, and will effectively contribute to achieving overall national development," the minister said at a scientific symposium organized by the ministry's Military Research Center in the capital Tunis.
Tunisia's military institution has set two goals, namely the advancement of scientific research and the development of the defense industry, according to Memmich.
The ministry will give priority to areas such as technology and risk readiness, he added. ■
