Uganda assures foreign envoys of readiness to combat Ebola

KAMPALA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Ministry of Health on Thursday gave envoys accredited to the country a guided tour of the Ebola treatment units in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and the neighboring Entebbe city.

Minister of Health Ruth Aceng said the envoys, including those from UN agencies, visited the Entebbe National Isolation Facility.

"There is one Ebola patient who is currently being managed at this facility and she is progressing well," Aceng said. "I would like to appreciate all the health workers for their selfless work and sacrifice in managing Ebola here."

Uganda is grappling with the deadly disease since the index case was announced on Sept. 20.

The Ministry of Health figures issued Thursday showed that the country has registered 64 confirmed Ebola cases and 25 confirmed Ebola deaths since the index case.

Two districts in the central part of the country are currently under lockdown as the country strives to combat the disease.

The government has also put the national capital of Kampala under a high response alert if cases break out.
