NIAMEY, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 terrorists were killed with five rifles, ammunition and seven vehicles seized during several operations carried out by the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) this week in the central and western parts of the country, Niger's army said Friday.
The FAN neutralized 10 terrorists and injured two in the Maradi region in the southwest of the country, the army reported in its weekly operations bulletin.
In the region of Tillabery in western Niger, "various military operations made it possible to neutralize five terrorists and destroy 12 motorcycles as well as a logistics truck belonging to armed terrorist groups", said the same source.
In the region of Agadez in the central part of the country, the same source reported seizing "seven vehicles without license plates during the week, along with 91 kg of cannabis, 49,600 tablets of tramadol, and 5 rifles with ammunition".
The West African country in recent years has seen a growing number of deadly attacks against the armed forces and civilians. The area known as the "three borders" (Niger-Mali-Burkina Faso) has become the theater of operations for terrorist groups which carry out deadly attacks on both sides of the borders, targeting the armed forces and the civilians. ■
