ABUJA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Five people were injured in an explosion from a gas cylinder that fell from a moving truck in the northern state of Jigawa, Nigeria, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The accident which occurred late Monday in the Babura local government area of the state also caused damage to 17 shops and five houses, Lawan Shiisu, a spokesman for the police in Jigawa, told Xinhua by telephone.
The driver of the truck which was carrying dozens of gas cylinders had ignored traffic rules and refused to stop after security operatives on stop-and-search in the area flagged down his vehicle, causing one of the cylinders to fall off and explode, according to Shiisu.
The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the spokesman added. ■
