RABAT, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's coast guards have rescued 743 illegal immigrants off the country's coasts since Aug. 22, the Moroccan military said on Tuesday.

The immigrants were sub-Saharan Africans, Yemenis, Sudaneses, Palestinians, Libyans, Egyptians and one Algerian national, Morocco news agency quoted a military statement as saying.

They were traveling in makeshift boats, kayaks and even by swimming in the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates the African continent from Europe.

The immigrants received first aid from the navy units before being taken to the neighboring ports, the report added.

Morocco is a popular transit country for African immigrants seeking to reach Europe. Enditem.
