RABAT, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Germany on Thursday agreed to further deepen the long-standing bilateral relations in all fields.

In a joint declaration issued by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, the two sides agreed to strengthen relations and dialogues, develop bilateral trade and investment and cooperate on climate policy.

They agreed to preserve the stability and continuity of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union (EU), and strengthen this partnership at all levels, according to the declaration.

Germany hailed Morocco as an essential partner of the EU and Germany in Africa, and a link between the North and South, it said.

The two sides also stressed their commitment to the fight against international terrorism and transnational organized crimes, which is essential for the security and stability of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

In May 2021, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Berlin for consultations following what Rabat considered "deep misunderstandings" over the issues Morocco deems essential for its sovereignty.

On Feb. 16, 2022, the two countries pledged to build "close and friendly relations," and start a new dialogue to "overcome misunderstandings in their relations."
